Ponte de Sor afirma-se como um destino de excelência para o turismo de natureza e desporto náutico, sempre com a Albufeira de Montargil como pano de fundo. Com novas infraestruturas, a certificação da Estação Náutica e uma oferta diversificada de atividades, a região aposta num desenvolvimento sustentável que promete atrair mais visitantes.
A Albufeira de Montargil é, sem dúvida, um dos principais pontos de interesse do concelho. A riqueza do património natural é ainda complementada pela presença de variadíssimos equipamentos culturais e de lazer que permitem alcançar um público diferenciado e mais alargado, prolongando a estadia do viajante/turista. Também os equipamentos desportivos do concelho complementam a valência náutica e lúdica da Albufeira, podendo alavancar a criação de pacotes de desporto ativo. Com a implementação e certificação da Estação Náutica Ponte de Sor – Montargil toda a oferta do concelho fica integrada e, com o trabalho em rede por parte dos vários intervenientes, é potenciado o valor do território, contribuindo para uma oferta com uma maior qualidade e mais completa. De salientar que a Estação Náutica abrange, não só a Albufeira de Montargil, mas também a Ribeira de Sor, complementando a oferta já existente. Estas sinergias irão contribuir para o aumento da procura deste território, bem como para o aumento da duração da estadia no concelho de Ponte de Sor. O intuito é aumentar o número de parceiros e manter uma dinâmica ativa entre eles.
Das atividades que se podem praticar, destaca-se a canoagem, vela, jet-ski, kitesurf, motonáutica, paddle surf e o wakeboard. Para além destas atividades, que podem ser realizadas através dos parceiros da Estação Náutica, existem outras opções como, por exemplo, pesca desportiva, natação e a observação de aves. No seguimento da potenciação deste espaço natural muito singular, em 2020, foi desenvolvido o Plano Estratégico de Valorização da Albufeira de Montargil, onde está definida a criação de várias infraestruturas de apoio a uma maior e melhor fruição da Albufeira de Montargil, tais como, praias fluviais, cable park, percursos pedestres, área de serviço de autocaravanas, entre outras. Estas infraestruturas possibilitarão, a par com as que já existem, criar uma maior oferta de experiências.
A praia fluvial de Montalvo/ Tesos será uma das três praias previstas para a Albufeira. Esta praia terá, para além de acessos melhorados, uma ecopista, área de autoca-ravanas no estacionamento de apoio à praia, parque de merendas, parque infantil, campo de voleibol, piscina flutuante, edifício para espaço comercial e praia concessionada. Por forma a melhorar a oferta e as instalações do Clube de Vela, prevê-se a sua mudança para este local, onde vão ser construídos espaços para o efeito, tal como rampa para embarcações e uma marina/cais. A Albufeira de Montargil já era muito procurada como praia, quer por parte da população local, quer por pessoas vindas de vários pontos do país, sendo a infraestruturação deste espaço bastante importante para o desenvolvimento local.
Um refúgio cultural e histórico
No património edificado destacam-se as capelas existentes por todo o território, bem como o Centro de Artes e Cultura, no edifício da antiga fábrica de moagem de cereais e descasque de arroz, transformado num espaço cultural. Neste local, para além da maquinaria original da antiga fábrica, existem vários espaços de exposição, o Museu Municipal e o maior mosaico de rolhas de cortiça do mundo (Recorde do Guiness). O concelho de Ponte de Sor pauta-se pelos diversos espaços culturais, a par com o Centro de Artes e Cultura, com uma grande dinâmica: Teatro-Cinema, Centro Cultural de Montargil, Centro Interpretativo de Molinologia de Foros de Arrão, Centro de Interpretação José Luís Peixoto e Núcleo Museológico em Galveias, bem como vários locais para eventos ao ar livre.
De salientar que o concelho de Ponte de Sor está presente na Rota da Estrada Nacional 2, com os seus 35 km de extensão no nosso território. Esta estrada ladeia toda a margem direita da Albufeira, apresentando-se atualmente como importante atrativo turístico.
A Natural and Cultural Refuge in the Heart of Alentejo
Ponte de Sor has established itself as an excellent destination for nature tourism and water sports, always with the Montargil Reservoir as a backdrop. With new infrastructure, the Nautical Station certification, and a diverse range of activities, the region is committed to sustainable development that promises to attract more visitors.
The Montargil Reservoir is undoubtedly one of the municipality’s main points of interest. Its rich natural heritage is complemented by a wide variety of cultural and leisure facilities, allowing it to reach a diverse and broader audience, extending the traveler’s/tourist’s stay. The municipality’s sports facilities also complement the Albufeira’s nautical and recreational activities, potentially leveraging the creation of active sports packages. With the implementation and certification of the Ponte de Sor – Montargil Nautical Station, the municipality’s entire offering is integrated, and networking among the various stakeholders enhances the region’s value, contributing to a higher-quality and more comprehensive offering. It is worth noting that the Nautical Station covers not only the Montargil Reservoir but also the Ribeira de Sor, complementing the existing offering. These synergies will contribute to increased demand for this area, as well as to longer stays in the municipality of Ponte de Sor. The aim is to increase the number of partners and maintain an active dynamic between them.
Among the activities available, canoeing, sailing, jet skiing, kitesurfing, power boating, paddle surfing, and wakeboarding stand out. In addition to these activities, which can be enjoyed through the Nautical Station’s partners, other options include sport fishing, swimming, and birdwatching. To further enhance this unique natural space, the Montargil Reservoir Strategic Enhancement Plan was developed in 2020. This plan defines the creation of various infrastructures to support greater and better enjoyment of the Montargil Reservoir, such as river beaches, a cable car park, hiking trails, a motorhome service area, and more. These infrastructures, along with existing ones, will enable a broader range of experiences.
The Montalvo/Tesos river beach will be one of three planned beaches in Albufeira. In addition to improved access, this beach will feature an eco-path, a motorhome parking area, a picnic area, a children’s playground, a volleyball court, a floating pool, a commercial building, and a concessioned beach. To improve the Sailing Club’s offerings and facilities, it is planned to relocate to this location, where dedicated spaces will be built, such as a boat ramp and a marina/pier. The Montargil Reservoir was already highly sought after as a beach, both by the local population and by visitors from various parts of the country, and the infrastructure of this space is crucial for local development.
A cultural and historical refuge
Among the built heritage, chapels located throughout the territory stand out, as does the Arts and Culture Center, housed in the former grain milling and rice husking factory, which has been converted into a cultural space. This location, in addition to the original machinery from the old factory, houses several exhibition spaces, the Municipal Museum, and the world’s largest cork stopper mosaic (a Guinness World Record holder). The municipality of Ponte de Sor boasts a variety of cultural spaces, along with the Arts and Culture Center, which are highly dynamic: a Theater-Cinema, the Montargil Cultural Center, the Foros de Arrão Molinology Interpretation Center, the José Luís Peixoto Interpretation Center, and the Galveias Museum Center, as well as several outdoor event venues.
It’s worth noting that the municipality of Ponte de Sor is on the 35-km National Road 2 route through our territory. This road runs along the entire right bank of the Albufeira River and is currently a major tourist attraction.
